Revolutionary 22000 Meters: Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link
On 12 January 2024, a revolutionary bridge Atal Setu Trans Harbour Link (THL) was Inaugurated, i.e. is a 22 km long bridge and tunnel project across the Mumbai Harbour, connecting Navi Mumbai to Sewri in Mumbai. It's anticipated to have a significant positive impact on warehousing and supply chains in the Mumbai Region.
Nitin Gadkari serving as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways in India. His role in the development of infrastructure projects, including the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link Road, involves overseeing planning, funding, and implementation. He plays a key role in facilitating the progress of such projects to enhance connectivity and promote economic development
MTHL is expected to divert traffic away from existing congested routes, easing traffic flow and potentially reducing fuel costs for transportation companies. The project is expected to generate employment opportunities and boost economic activity in both Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. MTHL will connect Navi Mumbai to a wider consumer market in Mumbai, opening up new business opportunities for warehousing and distribution companies. Faster and more reliable transportation will enable businesses to optimize inventory levels, reducing storage costs and the risk of stockouts.
MTHL will drastically reduce travel time between Navi Mumbai and Mumbai, enabling faster cargo movement. This translates to quicker deliveries, improved efficiency, and potentially lower transportation costs for businesses involved in warehousing and supply chains. The link will provide direct access to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India's busiest container port, from Navi Mumbai. This will streamline cargo movement to and from the port, reducing transportation costs and delays for import and export businesses.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu will cut travel time between the two nodes from two-and-a-half hours to just 20 minutes. It is estimated that 10 million litres of fuel will be saved annually. The sea bridge is poised to significantly shorten travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to just 20 minutes which otherwise takes 2 hours. The MTHL is expected to solidify Mumbai's status as a vibrant real estate hub, appreciating prices and spurring significant real estate growth.
Only the issue raised by the people is about the Toll Rate decided by the Government which sems to be quite high for the Ordinary people. Most of the Political Parties have raised voice against it as they say that the toll expense will be greater then the expense of Fuel.
Navi Mumbai has ample land available at competitive rates compared to Mumbai. THL's improved connectivity is expected to spur the development of large-scale warehousing and logistics facilities in Navi Mumbai. This will create a centralized logistics hub, attracting businesses and boosting warehousing activity. MTHL will be integrated with existing road and rail networks, facilitating multimodal transportation options. This will provide greater flexibility and cost-effectiveness for businesses in designing their supply chains.
It's important to note that the actual impact of MTHL on warehousing and supply chains will depend on various factors, including infrastructure development around the link, logistics service providers' adaptability, and market demand. However, the overall potential for improvement is significant, making THL a promising development for the warehousing and supply chain sectors in the Mumbai region.
